Default Music files linked in powerpoint

I did the following to insert a music file into my powerpoint:

Insert, Sound and Music, From File, I chose the file (mp4 saved in the same
folder as my presentation).

It played perfectly fine when I viewed the slideshow and clicked the icon.
However, when I closed the powerpoint file and re-opened it, there was a
question mark by the sound clip, and it could not find the file. This has
happened on multiple presentations with multiple sound files. Suggestions?

I use a MacBook ('06) and Powerpoint 2008. Thanks.
