Default Upgrading to 2003

I have a version of Visio 2000 that does not qualify for an upgrade (now I
know why MS has withdrawn the SP1 download). I have created my own stencil
of items to do house layouts (walls, windows, doors, cabinets, Stairs, etc)
from stencils I had in Visio 2000.

If I upgrade to Visio Standard 2003, will I be able to use my template from
Visio 2000 or will I have to go all the way to Visio Professional?

A stencil created in any version of Visio can be used in any later version
of Visio. The difference in the flavours of Visio (Standard and Pro) are in
the available add ons and stencils. Unless your stencil uses one of the
add-ons, it should not matter what falvour of Visio you open your stencil
in.

So what is different about your version of Visio 2000 that disqualifies it
for an upgrade? Any version of Visio from Visio 2000 forward qualifies for
an upgrade. That includes Visio 2000 released before MS acquired Visio.

The MS web site says that you need Visio 2000 SR1 to upgrade. I did not get
the Service release.

How would I know if the stencil I use invokes an add-on in Visio 2000?

Ah, a real copy of Visio from Visio. (The first release from Microsoft was
Visio 2000 with SR1 and MS branding.) I'm still trying to get an answer as
to how a user can get SR1.

The only way is to try in Visio 2003, but the ones that do not work are very
few.
