Default Blank field printing a 0 (zero)

My data source is an Excel spreadsheet and there are blank fields. How do I
tell it skip the field, not print a 0 (zero) move to next field?

Use a conditional field.
In theory {IF {Mergefield fieldname} 0 "{Mergefield Fieldname}"} should
do the trick.
If not, try
{IF {Mergefield fieldname} "" "{Mergefield Fieldname}"}
