#N/A error in formulas that link to closed
I'm getting a #N/A error in formulas that link to closed
workbooks. Using Excel 2000 Column A in a closed workbook (book2) has a list of names in last, first format. In an open workbook (book1) column A has a simple "if" formula that says if the same cell in the closed workbook contains "" then show "" otherwise show contents of same cell in closed workbook. The formula repeates for 200 rows and most of the time it works fine. In many cases the formula returns a #N/A for cells with valid data in them. The error seems to be specific to certain names and sometimes changing the spelling or case of the name in the closed workbook fixes the problem, sometimes not. If I open the closed workbook all the errors clear and data shows correctly until the next time I refresh the links with book2 closed. Why if the formula is correct and the data in the closed book is valid would this happen on some entries and not others and how do I correct this? I can't just hide the error I need the data. HELP!!!
