Default mail merge problems

I am trying to do a mail merge of 7200 names for a 1 page document and a
blank page is printing in between each letter. The document is set up as a
single page. I am using Word 2000

Each new letter in a Letter merge is in a new Word /section/ so I would
certainly look at Word File|page Setup to ensure that you do not have e.g.
section starts on an Odd or Even page.
