Importing AutoCAD into Visio 2007
I am trying to import AutoCAD 2007 DWG files into Visio 2007 but it just
doesn't seem to work. I browsed the database and saw others had similar problems but they weren't using Visio 2007. I tried saving the CAD file down as both a 2004 and 2000 file, but I still get the same error message about the files not being DWGs or that they're corrupt. Any ideas??? Thanks much. |

Importing AutoCAD into Visio 2007
Hi Amy,
We have a blog article about this at http://www.visiozone.com/?p=26 However, it specifically addresses how to convert from newer AutoCAD dwg formats to older ones with a free tool from A9Tech.com. This is the most common cause of dwg files not opening in Visio and it generates the following message: "Cannot open file. The file may not be a DWG or DXF file, it may not be in a supported version of the DWG file format, or it may be corrupted. Check the file and try again." It seems from your post that you are able to save in AutoCAD 2000 format which should work so I don't know if this will help. But if you are getting that message, you may want to check your process to verify that you are indeed saving in the AutoCAD 2000 format.
