Default spacing problem

My daughter is a new Word user. When she hits the space
bar it inserts a bullet instead of space. she has been
exploring and changed something. Can anybody please help.
Also how do you hide the paragraph symbol from the
screen. Thank you for any help.

Regards
Tpm.

Default spacing problem

document, and the square bullets in the left margin, mean?

Hope this helps.
