Can recieve but not send emails Outlook 2007
using Outlook 2007 with Windows Vista, connecting to Yahoo and cannot send
emails. I have good internet connection and using Norton AntiVirus. I recieve emails fine. I have checked the smtp and changed the settings to yahoo's recommendations, does not work. Looked at the Office Outlook website and was told to check Mail in the Control Panel and there is none. I have checked the diagnostic on outlook and says it is good. I have checked these discussion groups and found where there are different numbers to enter and tried those and they do not work. Running out of things to try. |

What happens when you try? Do you get an error message of some kind or do

Only a few Yahoo regional domains permit access to their POP/SMTP mail hosts by freebie accounts. Most Yahoo domains require that you have a PAID account to access their servers. Do you have a paid account at Yahoo? |

Although an RFC ratified back in 1998 said that e-mail clients (MUAs = mail user agents) are not to use port 25 and that this port was only for use my MTAs (mail transfer agents, like SMTP mail servers), not all ISPs changed immediately. The RFC specified that MUAs are supposed to use port 587. Some took 3 years to change, others 6 years, and some haven't changed at all. I haven't seen any e-mail clients that yet default to the recommended port 587 for MUAs. They all default to port 25. So if your ISP changed their default SMTP port to 587 (with the Yahoo-contracted e-mail service provider), you will have to do the same in the e-mail account that you defined in Outlook. See if switching from port 25 to 587 gets the SMTP connect to work. However, if the wrong port were specified from what the mail server requires, you WOULD get an error message regarding an inability to connect to that mail server. You said there were no error messages. So how do you know that Outlook has even attempted to send your e-mails? If the e-mail is still sitting in the Drafts folder, Outlook has never ever attempted to send it yet. If the e-mail got moved or saved into the Outbox folder, that item is *eligible* for sending but won't go anywhere until Outlook actually attempts a mail poll (to the SMTP mail host). Have you attempted a mail poll by hitting F9? If scheduled mail polling is disabled, you will have to manually initiate the mail poll. Also, check the Send/Receive Settings for that e-mail account. It might be that only the receive operation is enabled but the send operation is disabled (i.e., it has been configured as a receive-only account). Also try disabling the superfluous e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. |

Thanks for all the information. I have changed the SMTP number a couple of
times but will try again. Also, I checked the status of the send and a green check appeared on each item but does not go and no error message; realy do not know what happens. I will try some of the things you have suggested and call att support and report back probably Monday. Thanks again for your help. Can "not send" and "does not go" tells no one anything about what you do when trying to send and what, if any, error message appears. You left it completely vague as to what you think "send" means. Did the item get sent to your SMTP mail server or did it never leave Outlook? Did you get an error message during the send operation? Is the item still sitting in the Outbox folder in Outlook? Or did it get moved into the Sent Items folder? |
