union query memo field

I use a union query to generate a report in excel. The report has a memo
field. I use excel version 10 and all the messages in the memo fields are
displayed. My client uses excel version 9 and he gets the #Value! error in
some of the memo fields. Can anyone please tell me what the problem is?
