Visio needs activity-on-arrow network templates and nodes
I'm doing a course with the UK's Open University on project management, and
have been using Visio 2003 quite a bit. In so doing, I think I've found a whole area of diagrams missing from the templates, namely 'activity-on-arrow networks'. These networks are flow charts that are used to show project management dependencies and time durations, and have a specific set of conventions of nodes and connector arrows. The nodes contain text boxes that show an identifier and the earliest and latest event times, plus in some cases the actual achieved time. The British convention (BS6046) is to have the node divided into three - a left hemisphere, and two right quarters. Some other node conventions include a hemisphere and two quarters arranged vertically, or the node divided into four diagonally. Finally, the connector arrows are labelled with duration below, and task label above -the line preferably to be horizontal at the point of labelling. I searched online help for ages before giving up and assuming this stuff didn't exist already - please disabuse me if you can, or comment on the suggestion. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes.
