Default Mail goes to Express not Outlook 2003

I have Express on a desk top with one pop3 account. I installed Outlook 2003
recreated the pop3 account and added a new SMTP account (also in Outlook
2003)

Mail to the new SMTP account goes into Outlook OK, but mail to the POP3
account still goes into Express

Outlook is set as my default, I have removed the POP3 account from Express,
turned off the auto check for mail in Express and tried stern language. Any
suggestions?

Do you mean outgoing mail still gets sent by OE? If you removed the Internet
mail account (which includes a POP3 & SMTP server) from OE, it shouldn't be
receiving mail at all

Hi Vince

Sorry my mistake. No I meant that all incoming mail to the POP3 account was
going to Express. I have since removed the account and it still does not go
to the Outlook POP3 account.

Any ideas?

If you open Outlook and hit F9 (manual send & receive), what happens?

Do you get an error message when you attempt to receive new mails? Sounds
like you don't have the account properly configured in Outlook regarding the
incoming (POP3) mail server.

Do you use any anti-spam software that runs as a proxy and you tried
configuring the Outlook account's POP3 service to go through that anti-spam
proxy?

Did you try disabling any anti-virus program from scanning your inbound
e-mails?

Are there actually any new mails pending in your mailbox for Outlook to
yank? Check using the webmail interface to your mailbox to see if you have
new mails sitting in your Inbox.

"Mail to the new SMTP account goes into Outlook OK, but mail to the POP3
account still goes into Express". To clarify, mail goes *TO* the SMTP
server for outbound messages and mail comes *FROM* the POP3 server for
inbound messages. That is why it was confusing whether you were asking
about inbound or outbound messages because you said "... mail *to* the POP3
account ..."

If no accounts are defined in Outlook Express, there is no way for it to
receive any inbound mails from your POP3 mail server. OE wouldn't have any
knowledge of which server to poll for new mails. Something else is
happening than what you describe. The fact that OE no longer has any
account defined and you cannot yank them in Outlook sure sounds like you
don't have the e-mail account properly configured in Outlook. A failed mail
session will show an error message in the Progress dialog. So what does it
say when you try receiving mails?

When I do a manual send and receive in Outlook it still doesn't download the
emails from my original express account.

After removing the express account I have reinstalled it and now even it
doesn't get the emails.

Suddenly the post office looks attractive

Hi Van

Sorry I seem to have confused everything and your knowledge is certainly
confusing me. To recap

I had an express account (home email) and the installed MS Office (including
outlook 2003) as I am starting a business. So within outlook I recreated my
pop3 account to get my home email and created an IMAP (work email) account
(sorry I called it SMTP before) so when I opened outlook hopefully all my
emails would be on the same screen.

IMAP works fine, all the work emails come in and go out no problem. POP 3
would go out of the new Outlook account but incoming went to express. So
after reading a few discussion boards I checked Outlook was my default (it
is) and I deleted the POP3 account in express. I tried manual (F9) send and
receive but it still wouldn't come into Outlook.

So as I was losing emails sent to my home address I recreated the Pop3
account in express so at least I could get the mail only to find that now
that doesn't receive the incoming mail either. hahahahaha. It would be funny
if it wasn't driving me bonkers.

What kind of mail account is it? Also, just to be sure, are there mail items
sitting in the mail box waiting for you?

The original express account (for home emails) was pop3
the new one for work is IMAP. When I tried to recreate the pop3 account
within outlook (which i bought for work purposes) it would send but not
receive, all pop3 mail still went to express.
So after deleting the express pop3 account and it making no difference I
recreated it in express so I could still get my mail and now it doesn't work.
There are no mail items being downloaded. And the world spins on

What error do you get in Outlook Express? Is it the same error you get in
Outlook?
