Help - lost addresses from address book
OK this is very weird. Just booted up my machine (Win XP Pro SP3, fully
updated, anti-virused, anti-spywared and anti-malwared to the hilt) and my Outlook Express (6.00.2900.5512 (xpsp.080413-2105) address book has lost all names/addresses from the letter "A" to "Q" - "R" to "Z" are still all there OK, but A to Q have all gone. This is my own personal computer and no-one else uses it, so I've never set up "identities" or "users" or whatever - just boot up, open OE and start using email. What the hell has happened and where have they gone? Can I get them back? TIA, Pete |

Does AutoComplete still work in the TO field of a new message, a reply to a
message, and/or a forward of a message? Do you have over 999 contacts in Address Book? Is MS Outlook also installed and did you just install an Outlook update? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 Pete Zahut wrote: OK this is very weird. Does AutoComplete still work in the TO field of a new message, a reply to a message, and/or a forward of a message? Yes, AutoComplete still works if I start to type a name such as Steve or any name beginning with the letters from R to Z, but nothing appears if I try a name starting with, say, A. Do you have over 999 contacts in Address Book? No. Probably had no more than 100 in total, even when the "A" to "Q" names were there - now there's only about 20. Is MS Outlook also installed and did you just install an Outlook update? Outlook is _not_ installed, just Outlook Express, and I've not noticed any updates/hotfixes for OE recently. Help - lost addresses from address book
Well done guys )
At some stage (don't remember doing it - weird) I must have made a backup of the address book or something because the search has turned up a John.wab file that has an icon of an address book and is called an "Address Book File" and is 318kb in size, and also a John.wab~ file (the icon for this is that icon that you get when Windows doesn't know what to do with it IYSWIM) that's called a WAB~ File and is 226kb. Now then, what do I do with them? Cheers guys, Pete PA Bear [MS MVP] wrote: Or try... *.WAB* Bruce Hagen wrote: Do an Advanced search and include Hidden Files and Folders. Help - lost addresses from address book
Open the current OE Address Book and File | Import | Address Book (wab) and
point to the one of the two you found that is the most complete. This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what is written in red. That is referring to a different program.
