I have a few documents that I cannot read I think they may have been done in
works but I cannot read the documents

Excel cannot read MS Works spreadsheet files. I'm not very familiar
with Works, but it may have an Export or Save As function that would
allow you to save the file in a format that Excel can read, such as
text, CSV, SYLK or something.
