OE not recognising internet connection
My ISP has just upgraded the speed on broadband connections and as a result
my pci modem wasnt working properly.I now have an external router using an ethernet connection and is set up so that as soon as a user logs on then you are on line.No dial-up.This works fine for IE but when I open OE the dial-up connection window appears wanting to connect via dial-up even though I am already on line.To further complicate things I just found out that this is only happening on my account(admin). The other users are not having this problem and OE is working fine on their accounts.Any thoughts anyone? -- Mike Ellis |

OE not recognising internet connection
Have you contacted the ISP or reviewed the info concerning the update at
their website? Most updates of that nature require a reboot following the intstallation of the upgrade. Have you rebooted? As to why other users are not having the same problem, maybe your ISP will have an answer for that also. Maybe it's because you're on the bottom of the world in Oz G. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Windows Mail Apps https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Not OZ. NZ actually.Yes to reboot, no to contacting ISP.Their tech support
doesnt work on Sundays.I was hoping someone here would have an insight as it appears to me to be a problem specific to this machine.XP SP2 by the way. -- Mike Ellis "Jim Pickering" wrote: Have you contacted the ISP or reviewed the info concerning the update at their website? In the Connection section of the Account Properties, do you have it set to connect via a dial-up
link or "any available" link? "Mike E" wrote in message ... Not OZ. OE not recognising internet connection
Mike: Have you looked at the Connection tab on OEs menu, Tools/Options to
make sure that there is nothing checked on that page? Sorry to hear your ISP doesn't work on the weekend. Also check in IEs menu that nothing is calling for a dialup connection. (Tools/Internet Options/Connection tab and make sure that 'Never dial a connection' is set. Good luck. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Windows Mail Apps https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. OE not recognising internet connection
It is set to any available although when this problem started it was still
set to the dial up connection, but this did not stop the other accounts from accessing OE.On further investigation it is just my account that this is happening with. One of the other accounts is admin as well and the other three are limited but OE is working fine on all of them.Is this beyond strange or what?Of course the connection settings for IE and OE should be universal for every user so why is this only happening on my account? -- Mike Ellis "Richard in AZ" wrote: In the Connection section of the Account Properties, do you have it set to connect via a dial-up link or "any available" link? Jim, yes I have checked that.Did you read my reply to Richard? As I said
there, these settings should be universal but it is still just my account where there is a problem.I have been through all the accounts checking the settings but they are all the same.At the moment the only possible solution that comes to mind is setting up a new account that I can use and deleting the existing one.Not very enthusiatic about this of course. -- Mike Ellis "Jim Pickering" wrote: Mike: Have you looked at the Connection tab on OEs menu, Tools/Options to make sure that there is nothing checked on that page? A corrupted identity can cause all sorts of weird problems. The new identity can use the existing account. |

OE not recognising internet connection
Richard and Jim,
Thanks for your input but the problem has resolved itsself. This morning OE was working fine on my account without me making any changes since my last post.I still dont understand why it happened in the first place or how it became 'fixed' but as long as it keeps working ok I will just leave it at that. -- Mike Ellis "Richard in AZ" wrote: "Mike E" wrote in message ...
