Default Mail merge field formatting from excel

I am trying to merge data from excel into word using mail merge. How do I
format the mail merge field so that it displays the currency figure or if the
figure is zero it leaves the field blank

You will; need a formatting switch eg
{Mergefield fieldname \@ "$,0.00;($,0.00); }
