Default Compressed Files

I need to compress files in XP Pro. On several other machines here a work
this is a menu selection when you right click on the desktop, or in Explorer
under File New. But my dilemma is that this option doesn't show up on
either menu. Where have I gone off course?

In Explorer, select your file - right click - Send to - Compressed file.
