That's OK PB. I was thinking about trying our IP provider's free
anti-virus/spam/adware program anyways

So far it is working great.

Yes, the original email was from an Outlook 2002 user.

I said nothing about uninstalling AVG (or Spybot or Ad-Aware), I recommended
disabling AVG's email scanning component or removing (uninstalling) the
component.

Is the sender of the message where the attachment was missing using MS
Outlook, Jim?

Forwarded (Is that a word?) An email on my Blackberry with an Excel
attachment, and it came through

Installed our internet provider's version of F-Secure, and it still works.
So far so good.

I double checked the Message Sourse again and the same gobly gook is
there,
but now the attachment icon is available.

1. Disable or uninstall AVG's email scanning component. It provides no
additional protection, it may be causing this problem, and even Symantec
says it's not necessary:

Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including
email
and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of
this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection,
keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you
have the most recent virus definitions.

2. If the Sender is using MS Outlook (not MS Outlook Express), ask him to
send messages to you only in Plain Text format, especially if there's an
attachment.

I am having an issue with receiving Ecel and Word attachments with
Outlook
Express. There is no paperclip in the top right corner to click on, so
most
fixes I have read about do not work.

I know the attachment is someplace in the message as the size of the
received message matches the size of the message when I sent it.

Which leads me to the questions:
Is it an Outlook Express issue?
MY home IP provider issue (I receive other attachments from other
people)
My work IP provider?

When I double click the message, and go to File/Properties, Details tab,
then click Message Source, and scroll down, there is a mile of gobeldy
gook
added below the message body.

Thanks for any help or tips.

If it's McAfee Security Center, don't bother. Even AVG Free's better than
that, but not that much better.

My IP provider is Shaw (CDN).

They offer a free version of F-Secure to their customers:
