Default Missing Cabs when Installing full file version of OneNote SP1 (and Office 2003 SP1)

Whenever I try to install OneNote 2003 SP1 or Office 2003 SP1 full-file
service packs, I get "missing CAB file" errors.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I have a Toshiba M205 PC, and as
such don't have access to the CABs for OneNote, so I can't install the
missing files from the install media as I don't have any. Needless to say,
I really need the full file version to work.

I get similar errors on the Office 2003 SP1 with missing CABs from
FrontPage 2003.

Thanks,
Simon

My Office 2003 SP1 installed ok but I had the same problem with the full
version of OneNote. It had a missing CAB that required the original CD.
Doesn't Microsoft test this stuff before they release it ????

I had same problem. The missing files are identified and if you have the CD just copy them into the /office11 directory or leave the CD in the tray. Web Compoinents may require update download, and unzip using winzip on the .exe file, reinstall from there, then apply SR-1.

Are you installing to the first OneNote version of attempting to go with the
beta SP1 release? The "full-file" won't install and update anything except
the original, non-beta product. Make sure your anti-virus and any
third-party firewall is totally shut down (not just excited from the Systray
icon).

I uninstalled SP1 "public preview," then reinstalled the original version
off my CD, THEN updated with SP1, and everything went just fine on a Toshiba
M200. (Trade? 8-) )

I had this problem doing an update of Office 2003. After some flailing, I
learned that, unlike previous versions of Office, which kept all the .CAB
files on the installation CD's, Office 2003 copies them all to your HD.
Thus, to do an update with O2003, you must have the .CAB files on the HD.
Office 2003 won't look to the Installation CD's.

The problem is that it's really easy to delete the Office .CAB files if you
use the Disk Cleanup routine in My Computer. If you do so, Office can no
longer be updated, unless you first haul out the O2003 installation CD's,
and do a reinstall.

It seems to me that this newer setup is really poor. First, it clogs your
HD with 250+ MB of files, and second, because they get included
automatically in the Disk Cleanup checklist, it's really an accident waiting
to happen.

To prevent this accident, you should, after reinstalling, load the Disk
Cleanup routine in My Computer, and then uncheck the box "Office Setup
Files".

The instructions for the preview release indicated that unless I had the
original install media, I shouldn't install it.

As the Toshiba M205 doesn't come with the original install media for One
Note, I didn't install it

So no, it's the original non-beta product, and my AV is shut down. No 3rd
party firewall.

Unfortunately, I'm not willing to reinstall my entire laptop - I don't have
an install CD for OneNote; it comes as part of the Toshiba Restore
procedure.

Do you have a DVD or CD restore system on the Toshiba, Simon? You should be
able to navigate to the "programs" folder (I believe it is, can't look right
now) and install the original OneNote from there.
