Default footnotes not autonumbering

I have a large document with many footnotes. I sent it to someone to
edit, and they converted it into a different format, then sent it back
to me to finish in a Word format. Now when I try to insert footnotes
(for example, I want to insert a footnote between 86 and 87), it starts
at 1. If I tell it to start at 87, the rest of the footnotes do not
auto-update.

I have already "Accepted all changes" in the Tracking Changes format.

I appreciate any help!
