Getting Message "Office Will Be Marked Not Genuine"
Hi:
I have Office Professional 2007 in a box along with the activation code for it, too. I installed it in November on my new computer, and I'm now getting messages telling me that the program will be marked "not genuine" in 11 days. Interestingly, when I originally installed Office 2007, I didn't get asked for my activation code, but when I go to HelpActivate Product, I'm told that the product has already been activated. 1) What do I need to do to take care of this problem? 2) Will Office 2007 still work on my computer in 11 days if the problem hasn't been resolved by then? Thanks. Jim |

If you purchased it off the internet through eBay or the like it is possibly not genuine but a pirated version. This almost sounds like a volume licensed or OEM version (which don't ask for product keys upon installation.) Start Word, click the Office Orb and then Word Options, Resources, About and let us know what the three characters are in the product key after the first 5 characters and hyphen. If they are OEM then this is most definitely a pirated version. The license key label which should be orange and on the back of the flip out part of the plastic case that the CD came in should have FPP in the lower right corner if it is a retail version, OEM if it is an OEM version or MLK if it is a Medialess license kit version. If the sticker or case is not proper then it is also probably a pirated version as Office 2007 does not "come in a box" but is in a plastic case. You may want to read this KB article and see if that helps get you back on track. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949810 Let us know the outcome or if you have any more questions. |

Getting Message "Office Will Be Marked Not Genuine"
Thanks for your help and information.
The software is actually in a DVD case, purchased on eBay. The characters in the product key after the hyphen after the first 5 characters under Word OptionsResourcesAbout are "707". I don't see "FPP" "OEM" or "MLK" on the orange license key label on the back of the box. Please let me know your additional thoughts on this. Thanks again. Hope you have full information about the purchase on eBay because I think you have been taken and you will probably not get anything back from the seller or eBay. Using the information on the purchase see the following: If you go to this link http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/dow....aspx#ID0EAPAC and scroll down toward the bottom and read the items under Office Validation then further down and read each item under "What is the genuine Office offer?", "Details of the genuine Office Complimentary Offer" and also "Details of the Office Genuine Advantage Kit" it may answer a lot of questions and show how to report the piracy and also obtain a legitimate version of your software at little or no additional cost to you. |

Getting Message "Office Will Be Marked Not Genuine"
Thanks again.
I'm assuming that when I get a genuine version of Office 2007 that I'm going to need to do an uninstall and a new install. Assuming this is the case, is there a way to save the E-mails I now have in Word 2007 so that I have them in Word 2007 again after the new installation of the software? Sorry for the late reply but I have been snowed out of my house for the last 3 days. Yes, any program such as you have should be totally uninstalled. Word doesn't do emails. Email clients do emails. Uninstalling a program generally does not delete data files or emails from the email client. It is always prudent to have a backup of all files you don't want to lose anytime you are doing system maintenance. |
