Org chart loads funny on some machines

This is a 2nd attempt posting because of problems in the 1st try.
Hope this doesn’t show up twice (apologies if it does).

I (re)created an org chart in Visio 2000. It looks fine until I close
it and reopen it. Thereafter, it looks fine for a split second, while
Visio is busy doing something (not sure what), then the boxes
reposition themselves into strange positions to yield a dog’s
breakfast of an org chart. The connections look like that same dog’s
breakfast after consumption, presumably because of the wonky box
positions. Dragging them around doesn’t seem to do much good because
they insist on snapping to odd positions.

Since the org chart looks fine for a split second, the unadulterated
information is still in the file. I went to another machine and
opened it with Visio 2003. It opened fine. This is odd, since I
created the org chart in Visio 2000.

If the org chart the becomes adulterated in Visio 2000 is saved, not
even opening it in 2003 yields a good org chart.

Unfortunately, Visio 2000 is what I have the most access to, so I
should find out why the org chart goes wonky after a split second.
Since it’s good for a split second, methinks it’s due to a setting in
my Visio 2000. What could this setting be? Does it necessarily have
to be a file-independent setting that is set before any files are
open? Or perhaps a setting that is associated with (and saved along
with) the org chart file? If so, then perhaps Visio applies this/
these setting[s] after the org chart file is opened, thus explaining
the split second for which the org chart is good.

When I was building the org chart, I mussed with the glue/snap
options, but changed them back to those of a brand new org chart. Are
these saved with the file? I also mussed with some switches in
searching for the switch that shows inches on the ruler.

adulterated can be saved, but Visio 2000 still adulterates it (after a
fraction of a second) when it is opened.

The solutions seems to be to create a new file and copy the corrupted
org chart to the new file. The pasted org chart looks sane. Strange.
