Default garbled messages

Operating System: windows XP
Connection Type: dialup/modem
Browser Type: ie 6+

I use Outlook 2002 (sp2) to accsess my free Hotmail
account. I have no problem connecting and downloading
messages from my Hotmail account into Outlook except for
one thing: The Hotmail messages are all garbled and
unintelligible. At the top of the window it is indicating
that I am looking at plain text. I think that possibly the
original messag emay be formatted in rich text or
HTML...would lookig at such a message in plain text cause
it to be competey garbled? When I select 'format' from the
menu, everything except 'wordwrap' is grayed out, leaving
me unable to adjust any settings. What can I do to correct
this? Please respond to , or I may not be
able to read your response at all. Thank you for your help.

Below is a copy of what a typical Hotmail message looks

like when I attempt to read it in Outlook. Does anyone
recognize what kind of coding this is? How can I make it
appear in its original formatting in Outlook?
