Change default date format when typing in month & day only
When you just type the month and day in a cell (e.g., 6/30), Excel automatically formats it as d-mmm (a custom number type). Is there anyway to change this to default to the short date format (e.g., 6/30/2004) for all new workbooks?

Change default date format when typing in month & day only
I don't know, but if I type in the year, it seems to use windows short date
format. Ilene Reba wrote: When you just type the month and day in a cell (e.g., 6/30), Excel automatically formats it as d-mmm (a custom number type). Is there anyway to change this to default to the short date format (e.g., 6/30/2004) for all new workbooks? -- Dave Peterson |

Change default date format when typing in month & day only
Thanks, but that doesn't help me. The client that I am asking about this for doesn't want to type the year - he only wants to type the month and day and have it default to the current year. I have explained that he can format all the cells first as short dates, but he wants Excel to do that automatically. So what I am looking for is a way to change the default date format for all new Excel workbooks when you don't type in the year and all you enter is the month and the day.

How about:
Hitting ctrl-; (control semicolon) to enter today's date hit enter type the real date. (I don't have a better suggestion.) Ilene Reba wrote: Thanks, but that doesn't help me.
