Default How do a set a white image area to transparent in Visio?

Is it possible to set the white (or other colour) of an image in Visio to
transparent so that it does not hide the image behind when placed over the
top?

You could use "NoFill" as the colour.

What if I'm using a BMP image that has a white background. Can I make the
white background transparent?

No - not BMP. You can Save As ... GIF and specify the transparency. I use
it all the time for static and animated gifs to use in Powerpoint.

I'd try going straigth to power point 1st. At least for jpg, haven't tried
bmp, power point will let you set a transparency color. Might avoid having
to convert to gif. The result can be copied back to Visio.

Great, Thanks for your help.

This doesn't seem to work for individual images (transparent area pastes as
black)but when I merge two images together in Powerpoint and then copy over
to Visio it works great as long as I keep the two images grouped.

It's funny in Visio that as you move an object it treats the white area as
transparent but as soon as it's placed the white areas appear again. You
would think given it obviously has this ability you could set it perminent.

Thanks Again =)

Actually, scrap that last post. I see Powerpoint can do it.
PNG and Windows Metafile also seem to work.

In Visio, select the drawing or item you want to save as a gif, then select
File - Save As ... select gif from the file types. A dialogue appears; tick
the transparency box (upper right of dialogue) and select or verify the
colour to be the transparency - usually white.
