I thought there was a legal issue with Adobe

Default Problem with Publishing PDF

There is but MS found a way around it - by offering it as a free add-in. I'd
still rather have a program that allows me to create a .pdf file from
anywhere instead of one that only works with Office.

I'd rather have a free one that works better than Adobe's add-in for
specifically working with Office apps, though.

I can't leave the Acrobat add-in running for more than a few months
without it starting to crash Publisher and Word on launch. And it still
doesn't fully support gradient transparency, unlike the built-in 2007
Office PDF.
