Default Pivot table

hi
My purpose is to calculate mortality rates in the hospital from total
released patients. the mortality column is marked 1 (death) and blank (no
death). the whole DB contains people that were released from the hospital and
i'm analyzing the mortality rates per period, department etc
I built Pivot table which counts the deaths and the releases devided by
periods, departments, ages etc
Now I don't know how to show the deaths as rates (% from all the releases).
I tried the % of total function: didn't work cause it showed the % of itself
and I need the % of the neighbour column in the Pivot
any help would be appreciated cause I need to finish it by weekend
thanks in advanced
