Why isn't this included anymore in the already installed software?? Why do I
have to pay an extra 150-200$$ for a product I've used successfully in my
older computers (Window 98, Windows XP)?

What is the difference between these two scenarios:

1. They include Microsoft Word/Works (to use your example) in the already
installed software and increase the price of the computer by $150-200.
Meaning, the cost of the software is hidden in the price of the computer.

and

2. You pay $150-200 less for the computer and don't have the software
installed and then have to buy it and install it ?

At least with computers, you can buy what you want and install what you
want. When you buy a car, if you want $75 mudflaps only, you have to buy
the whole Performance package for $1500 that includes door side mouldings,
mats, mudflaps and a 6 CD changer. You get my drift.

The bottom line is, one way or another, they have you by the cohones.

By the way, having used it successfully in older computers has no bearing on
whether it is installed or whether you have to pay extra for it *now*.
Windows 98 and Windows XP was 12 and 8 years ago, respectively. That's eons
in computer time.
