Default Discrepancies in print preview

I edit documents using self-designed templates in Word
2002 by copying text from unformated documents into the
template and assigning appropriate styles. The text
looks fine in print layout view, but when I do a print
preview (or print), the formatting is off - usually
missing carriage returns. What am I doing wrong?

Click on the ¶ Show Hide button and see if there are actually carriage
returns where you expect them to be.

I generally edit with this button activated, and yes, there are carriage returns where I would expect them.
