Block-Sender feature in OE

I use WinXP and OE6. When about 100 spam emails came in, I decided to use
the Block-Sender feature. I right-clicked each message, then opened the
Message menu and clicked "Block Sender". For each one a confirmation dialog
came up saying that the sender is blocked.

When I got all through, I decided to check the Block Sender's List. It
opened and there was only one email in there. What happened? How can I fix
the problem?

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you why the 100 addresses did not show up. But I can tell you that the
block sender tool is a very poor way to try to prevent spam. The spammers seldom use the same
return address twice and unless the return address is an exact match, the message is not blocked.
So when send the second message as your block sender will not stop
him. You will be adding blocks until the cows come home and still not even slowing the spam. You
need to use an antispam software program and it will still be a lot of work to train that program to
recognize new spam.

The block sender tool is only useful if you are being harassed by one individual who always uses the
same address.

As others have said, Blocked Senders is pretty fruitless since spammers
constantly change their addresses. That said, if your list of Blocked
senders keeps disappearing, then the registry key has become corrupt.

The registry key has become corrupt. Close OE and then:

1.. In Regedit, navigate to this key:

|--HKEY_CURRENT_USER
|-----Identities
|--------{GUID}
|-----------Software
|--------------Microsoft
|-----------------Outlook Express
|--------------------5.0

where GUID is the Global Unique IDentifier for your Identity.

2.. Under that key, you will find the following sub-keys, among
others:

|-----------------------Block Senders
|-----------------------Rules
|-----------------------Signatures

Select the Block Senders Key and delete it. Blocked Senders will be empty,
but you can rebuild it now.
