Default Cannot open OE6

That's good to know, although somewhat unusual. Maybe things are
different in the UK than in this country. But since it's your
employer's copy, I think your best bet to find out what is and is not
installable would be to contact his/her IT staff and solicit help from
them since none of us here would have any way of knowing how your copy
was altered for network installation.

It is not a pirated copy. We have an agreement with Microsoft.

I used my employer's CD as our staff have a license to use Windows
from
home. I'm just wondering if it isn't a complete version. I'm also
having
problems with the "Help and Support Centre" which is available from
the start
menu.

That is called a "pirated" version and could subject both you and
your
employer to legal liability. While no one here acts as a cop for
Microsoft, it's not a wise thing to publicize that you are using an
illegal copy of Windows. You would be much better off to purchase a
copy legally and install it, so that you have advantage of all
features,
including Help and Support and access to Windows Updates. Your
choice,
but there isn't much we can really help with in your particular
situation since we have no way of knowing what features are not
available in your system. Sorry.

Default Cannot open OE6

See Jim's replies, please, Julie. The issue appears to be the customized
(apparently) version of Windows XP (e.g., Is OE an available Mail Client on
employer-owned machines?).

Yes, it is checked but it shows 0.0MB. All the files are in the OUtlook
Express folder though exactly the same as they are on my other fully
working computer.

home. I'm just wondering if it isn't a complete version. I'm also having
problems with the "Help and Support Centre" which is available from the
start menu. When I click on that it says that it cannot find
helpctr.exe. I also have no system restore or many other items from
System Tools although again the files are there in the folder but Windows
just can't find them.

Is this checked?

If you built your own PC, what CD did you use to install Windows XP?

Yes, and I still found nothing. Sorry ...

To use Windows Explorer Search to find DBX files, you must check the
"Advanced" option and the 3 options underneath it before Searching,

Thanks for the quick response. I downloaded your script and
nothing happened. So I did a search for *.dbx (including hidden
folders) and nothing was found.
If someone could give me a straight copy of OE6 I could have a go
at reinstalling it but all my versions seem to be older and so
won't install. Thanks for your efforts.

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them
to local folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or
shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- WinXP SP2 only: If your machine is fully up-to-date at Windows
Update, installing the following patch (KB918766) will help to
avoid such data loss in the futu
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...2-98af2256ccc3

This patch will be included in the next Cumulative Update for
Outlook Express/WinXP SP2.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also
cause corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional
protection. --

I have just built my own PC and am trying to get OE6 to work
but when I click on it I get an error message saying that it
cannot open the Message Store, my computer may be out of
memory or my disk is full (neither of these are true). It
then gives a number: 0x80040154,14007. It also says that
msoe.dll is incorrect - I have tried reinstalling it but then
it says that I need cinfo.xml from my XP SP2 disk which
doesnt exist then I have searched for it. Please help me!
Thanks
