Hi
though this is not very secure you can try the following: - hide the worksheet - protect the workbook and assign a password for this protection But as said these kind of passwords can easily be circumvented -- Regards Frank Kabel Frankfurt, Germany *k* wrote: I am making a workbook with 6 or so sheets, it's to go on our intranet I want to make only 5 of those visable data 1-5 and the 6th (admin) only visable to me as the author of the workbook, data1-5 only viewable and NOT editable by anyone except me as author. how can i acheive this please? tia K |

Hi
not really a chance to make Excel secure. The only way would be to use a Com-Addin but this is probably too much effort in your case. all build-in Excel security mechanismns can be cracked within minutes by a dtermined user. Sorry but Excel wasn't designed for this :-) -- Regards Frank Kabel Frankfurt, Germany *k* wrote: On Thu, 10 Jun 2004 13:29:22 +0200, "Frank Kabel" wrote: Hi though this is not very secure you can try the following: - hide the worksheet - protect the workbook and assign a password for this protection But as said these kind of passwords can easily be circumvented hi thanks for the thought.....but as you say...this can be got around....I was really after something secure so that only i could see the admin sheet and edit all other sheets and others could only view them |

You could also hide the formulas and change the font color to same as
background color, and font size to "1"........the more "layers" a hunter has to go through, may make him give up....... I t seems also, that you could put multiple Change-event macros in place to keep re-protecting the sheet with different passwords, and of course the code could be password protected also......again, all "beatable", but a LOT more trouble to beat, and hopefully not worth the effort......... Another thing to consider is to have your visible sheets reference not an AdminSHEET, but a separate AdminBOOK, and only you have access to it. Of course......the best ideas are always the simplest, ideal soloution thanks for that :-) You could also hide the formulas and change the font color to same as background color, and font size to "1"........the more "layers" a hunter has to go through, may make him give up.......
