how can i start using Word, if it won't let me activate it?

You'd be best off reposting your question to a newsgroup related to Word.

Should you decide to repost, be aware that's it's considered polite to put
some details into the big white space: not simply to post a Subject line.
Including details of what version of Word you're using, and perhaps what
operating system can be very useful.
