how do I get user info to print on pgs from community printers?
I am trying to identify pages printed from a community printer. We have
approximately 40 people printing to the same printer. Is it possible to have the user name, which is viewable when it is qued for printing, print on the page. As to identify each page. We are having a lot of waste and trying to manage 40 people's printing is ridiculous. Looking for some help. Windows XP Professional, ver 2002 Service Pack 2. HP LaserJet 4200 PCL 5e |

how do I get user info to print on pgs from community printers?
One of the printers at work spits out a page at the beginning of each print
job with the file owner and file name. I don't know if that's a print server function or a printer function. (I know that it doesn't happen with the printers I use most of time.) -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] ~~~~~ How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/KB/555375 "SScottyy" wrote in message ... how do I get user info to print on pgs from community printers
I understand that... I am looking to reduce the amount of pages that are
printing at the same time identifying the printed pages... kind of like the line printed at the bottom of pages when you print from the net. www.blah.blah.com type thing... or even where the page numbers are set. But to be able to print from any source and have the identifying username on the page. Thank you for the comment. how do I get user info to print on pgs from community printers
The short of it, yes I do. How is it possible? This is only for the
"community printer" not the personal printers that are on each of the supervisor and managers desks/offices. We are a logistics company for LTL and TL freight. You do not have to read the following... it is a long ranting about the office I work in. I work in an environment where documentation of everything is mandatory, CYA. Micro-management galore... The items printed are not for personal use. We are billers and raters. When we print out items they are for documentation. Who did what for who when where and for how much. We have to answer these questions and then when someone short pays an invoice we have to have documentation for the same and to have additional information on who obtained the said information would be beneficial. It also aids in the management of the employees who aren't paying attention to their work. i.e. They get busy, phone call delays them, 20 other pages were printed out, someone moved the pages to the large stack of beside the printer and opps they can't find it and they print it again... or they forget about what they did. With in a week, in our office alone we have a stack almost the size of a ream of paper. Collectively speaking through out the whole company this adds up quickly. In a years time I am sure we will save some $ from spending a little on toner on a page. "JoAnn Paules" wrote: Are you really sure you'd want that on everything printed? I have no idea if it *can* be done. It just sounds like a really bad idea.

I would like to ask you not to refer to my idea as "a really bad idea". Is
it possible for you to forward this on to someone who does know how to get this accomplished and let us decide whether or not it is a viable solution for our workplace? I have no points of contact who could help with that. You could try the
applicable version of Windows newsgroup or even ask the tech support folks at your printer manufacturer. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] ~~~~~ How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/KB/555375 "SScottyy" wrote in message ... Is there not a supervisor, manager, department head, or someone you are
working beside that knows someone who can direct me to the correct place to go other than another discussion group? There are at least 1000 people working in the building I am in right now and we have offices all over the world. You should know one person who would have an idea of who to go to... Bill Gates ? ?
