Default Msft Ofc Pro 2007 Installation issue

I've had a somewhat similar problem: Upgrading from Office XP
Professional 2002. On the first try it seemed to be going well until I tried
to open Internet Explorer during the upgrade installation. A message
appeared saying that another program was attempting installation and did I
want to continue that. I thought it was referring to the attempt to open IE
and chose "No." The Office Professional 2007 upgrade immediately stopped and
a message appeared saying that all changes would be rolled back.
After this I found that my Office XP Professional 2002 XP icons on the
Start list had disappeared, suggesting that the application may have been
deleted or uninstalled. I was unable access any Office files.
I ran the Office XP Professional 2002 discs, selecting setup--reinstall
and got my files back. I again attempted to upgrade to Office Professional
2007. This time it didn't get past the first green "blip" on the
installation progress bar before I got a message saying that an error occured
during setup. No option other than "Close" was offered.
Perhaps I should have run "Uninstall Office XP Professional 2002"
before I attempted to reinstall it prior to attempting the upgrade. I'm
reluctant to try that now for fear that doing so will only make matters worse.
Does anyone have any ideas about all of this? Thanks so much in
advance.

Yes, my Office 2007 is an upgrade. I'll try the log file. I just hope that I
don't screw things up any worse than they already are.

I purchased it at Costco on 04/23/2007. I don't see why this would be an
issue I worked fine when I installed it on my Desktop yesterday.

I went to the log file and manually deleted all of the files that I was told
to delete and was finally able to load my Office Pro 2007 onto my laptop.
Thank you for the help.

Default Msft Ofc Pro 2007 Installation issue

Hi,
My problem was corrected by a Microsoft techie yesterday. It took him over
an hour while he shared access to my computer. A lot had to be done. Some
files were corrupted. In addition, he uninstalled Office 2002, found stray
Office 2007 files that had to be removed. Once he did this, the installation
of Office 2007 went very smoothly although it took a long time to complete
because of the large amount of data in it. This was all covered by the
warranty. There was no cost at all to me.
