Default Don't Save

I have documents saved on a shared network drive, don't know if that matters,
and if choose not to save modifications I've made to these documents a window
pops up saying that Microsoft Office Word has experienced a problem and needs
to close. I was already closing the document why does this happen? Can I get
it to stop? It also reopens a new blank Word document when I close the error
report. Also, this seems to happen only 80% of the time, if that helps.
