Default Excel imbedded in Word Doc

I have been using office 97 to format my documents. I use
a word document with a excel worksheet imbedded in it to
do summing fuctions etc. In word 97 document, I would
double click the excel object and it would open allowing
me to edit it. When I try the same thing with Word 2003,
I get the message "Word can not open the document: user
does not have access privileges". Where and how do I get
access to the document?
