labels and mail merge - advanced

I am merging names from an excel spreadheet to create
name badges using Avery label 5095. This particular
label had 8 individual labels on a 8.5" x 11 sheet. I
have 56 unique names and would like them merged and
printed on 7 label sheets (8 name labels per sheet times
7 sheets equals 56 names).

Unfortunatley when I merge the document I get 56 pages
and when I print it prints one name 8 times on a sheet.

What I want is for Publisher to print each name as it is
merged into a label, just like Word does (except Word
does not habe border art).

Am I missing something really obvious or do I have 7
extra labels I don't need per name. Any help will be
appreciated.

Did you actually print? Or did you just do a print preview? The tutorials
that Ed led you to do indeed give you directions on how to accomplish this,
but the label size will vary.

I just tested your exact scenario. I did the following:

1. Opened Microsoft Publisher 2003
2. Went to File Page Setup Publication Type: Label Avery 5095 -
Nametags
3. By default, this shows 2 x 4 (8) in the page setup dialog. However, my
actual publication shows a single label to do my design on.
4. Clicked OK
5. Then I went to Tools Mail and Catalog Merge Mail and Catalog Merge
Wizard
6. Using the Mail Merge, I followed the steps, using Address Block as my
layout.
7. I went to Print Merge Test which printed two sample rows. These showed
four different names printed (top two rows).

Works great. What are the steps you performed?
