Default Error running setup

Someone here is trying to install Office 2003 Pro (or even
Office XP Pro -- the same thing happens) and keeps getting
this error:

Error opening installation log file. Verify that the
specified log file location exists and is writable.

She's also been getting warnings about being out of disk
space even though she has plenty available (30 gigs or
so). Any advice what we should do? Thanks.
