Default Opening Link in new window

This has had me scratching my head all day.

We have a number of word documents that open just fine when uploaded to
our intranet.
But does anyone know haw to force hyperlinks in Word docs to open in a
new
window? (not the browser content frame where the word document is
sitting?)

Tried typing all sorts in the hyperlink properties field in word
(target='_blank' etc) but to no avail.

Anyone know the answer? (no I don't want to convert the offical docs
to
HTML for a variety of reasons)

Have you tried adding the \n switch to the HYPERLINK field? See "Field
codes: Hyperlink field" in Word's Help.
