If you reinstall your operating system, it gives you a clean look like you
just bought it. Anything that did not come with the installation disk will not be on your machine anymore. Did you create a backup of OE? Why not? You do not import messages from Yahoo, you download them from the server. If you did not have "Leave a copy......." checked, every time you downloaded messages to OE, they were removed from the Yahoo server. Is the old hard drive the one you were using prior to the reinstallation? If you can hook it up as a slave, you should be able to import your OE folders if they are indeed on this HDD. Think of it this way. You remove a half full gas tank from your car and replace it with a new, but empty gas tank. Can you guess why the car won't start? -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Rohan" wrote in message ... I'M NEW TO OE, HOW DOES ONE CREATE A BACKUP ?
NOT TOO SURE IF I CHECK THE "LEAVE A COPY..." OPTION. " If you can hook it up as a slave, you should be able to import your OE folders if they are indeed on this HDD." YES, I HAVE THE THE OLD HD WITH ME, HOW DO I IMPORT IT FROM THERE ? Thanks "Bruce Hagen" wrote: If you reinstall your operating system, it gives you a clean look like you just bought it. Please don't post all in CAPS, thank you.
Here is the answer to your first two questions. The answers will not help with your current situation though. 1: Backup & Resto http://www.insideoe.com/backup/ This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what is written in red. That is referring to a different program. Outlook Express Quick Backup (OEQB): http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx 2: Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced - Check: Leave a copy of messages on the server. But, you can't leave messages there permanently or you will not get new messages when you reach your ISPs Inbox quota. You have to check with them to find out what the limit is. Check to Delete messages after X days to assure the server does not get clogged up. If the old hard drive is hooked up and accessible, find the OE message store. First, enable Hidden Files and Folders. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. Now do a search on the old drive for *.dbx If/when you find the old message store, open OE in the new installation and import the folders. In the new identity: File | Import | Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and Import from the old identity, pointing to the location on the old HDD. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Rohan" wrote in message ... Yahoo! claims it is "unlimited", but has some fine print exceptions. Practically, it is probably several times larger than Google mail. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
