Win95 Fax Software
Office 97
Outlook 98 ------------ I am temporarily (maybe permanent!) using my old Win98 computer. It has Office 97 and Outlook 98 on it. Windows used to have it's own fax software, I think it was on the Win95 version. I have an old Win95 cd and was wondering if anyone remembers out to get this fax software to work? Basically, what I am trying to accomplish is to be able to fax from any Office 97 module, not just Outlook. Thanks for any help that is able to be offered. Michael |

Use your Win98 CD instead. It's on there too.
For information on installing MSFax in Windows 98, take a look he http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q187/9/79.asp The procedure may be a little different for Win98 SE. Win98 SE will install IE5, which has a habit of changing the MAPI files that are used by Outlook 98 (and MSFax). The trick is to install Win98 SE and extract the MS Fax stuff from the Win98 SE CD. Get that working first and then rename all the MAPI*.* files and then install Outlook 98. If you make sure that you install Outlook 98 in corporate/workgroup mode then you should be OK for MSFax. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "J. Michael Morse" wrote in message ... Russ, Thanks for the info. Everything worked great as far as the faxing goes. It is using Exchange 5.0, which I assume is what is not Outlook. I set up a mail account which will pull the email (pop3) of my earthlink but will not send any mail. It gives the error message, "No transport found." Can you help me with this also or do I need to post to another newsgroup? FYI, I double checked the pop mail settings, so I know that both the outgoing and incoming settings are correct. It seems odd that it will pull (receive) but not send. I would like to avoid having to re-install Outlook if possible as this Exchange program looks like it will do what I need and I am afraid if I reinstall Outlook, it will muck up my ability to send faxes. Thanks again for your help. Michael |

Nothing fits here. Please check the accuracy of your statements.
Exchange 5.0 was a corporate mail server that is so old no viable company would still be using it. Are you telling me you are connected to a corporate intranet based on Exchange 5.0? Outlook 97 is equally decrepit. No one has used it for years. Moreover it did not support the co-existence of Exchange and an Internet Mail transport in the same profile. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "@(none)" ""michael\"@(none)" wrote in message ... Moreover it did not support the co-existence of Exchange and an Internet Mail transport in the same profile. No, I am not connected to a corporate inranet. When I load Exchange 5.0, it asks me to choose a profile and I select my profile. Under my profile I have five services, Personal Addresss Book, Outlook Address Book (even though Outlook is not installed), Microsoft Fax, Personal Files and INTERNET email. My profile did at one time have a Exchange Mailbox option, but via one of the menus (Properties?) I removed it. All five of these services work fine, with the exception of the internet email. Again, I can receive mail via my pop3 earthlink account, but when I try to send mail, it get the following message in my Inbox: "No transport provider was available for delivery to this recipient." Now, this is not a big issue. I can always use Mozilla or Outlook Express to send email. However, if I do that, I might as well use an alternate program for both sending and receiving. I am simply trying to avoid reinstalling Outlook 98 as I am afraid it will mess up the Exchange program which has the fax option in it. Unless you know if that these five services (including the fax service) will still be available in Outlook? OTS, I really enjoyed using Outlook 98 and even by today's standards, would not label it as decrepit. I use email for mostly basic things do not use all of the bells and whistles. Sending, receiving and a decent address book is included in Outlook, not to mention a decent calendar. In fact, I still use Office 97. I know this is off topic but I never felt the need to "upgrade" programs. There is no point in doing so since Office 97 fits my needs. Anyway, any more insight you may have will be appreciated. I would really like to get Exchange's outgoing email function to work so that way I would have to use only one email program. Thank you for your help so far. It is appreciated. Michael -- J. M. Do you mean the old Exchange client from Windows 95?
Outlook 97/98 replaced that. You shouldn't be using that application at all. Why would you not want to use Outlook? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "@(none)" ""michael\"@(none)" wrote in message ... Unless I had it (Outlook 98) installed incorrectly, there was no fax function to it. Am I mistaken? Does Outlook 98 have a fax function like Exchange? The only reason I have not re-installed Outlook 98 is that I am afraid it will erase/override the fax function in Exchange. Do you know if this is the case? Michael |

Win95 Fax Software
Outlook 97 and 98 replaced that old Exchange client--and needed to. That
client couldn't even negotiate with many POP3/SMTP servers. They retain the ability to handle full MAPI transports and so they integrate just fine with Microsoft Fax. If you install Outlook 98, make sure you use Corp/Workgroup mode so that you will have full MAPI capability. Also, pay attention to the order in which you install things in order to keep Fax working. You should find ample instructions he http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/msfax.htm -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "J. Michael Morse" wrote in message ... Michael *********************************************** Hi , Let's get straght. Forget about FAX software of Old Win95 temporarily. To send FAX "WITH OUTLOOK98" on Windows98(not 98SE ? maybe) You neet to install WinFAX starter edition which is on OUTLOOK98 CD or Office97 CD now that your PC is equipped with FAX modem and its driver is effective and Outlook98 must be installed as IMO. Internet Explorer 4.X must be installed wihich is the begining version just after you installed Windows98. If you updated Internet Explorer to version 5 or higher, you must back it down to version 4.X or you cannot install WinFAX SE as one of the Outlook98 components. Then, strat-control panel- Add/ Remove software, you point Outlook98 , add components , check WinFAX starter edition in the list displayed on window of Internet Explorer 4.X. After WinFAX SE is installed, start Outlook98, a dialog may come up to set account for WinFAXSE, set them as required push "MODEM" button on the dialog to make WinFAX detect FAX modem. If this suceeds FAX modem's port is set to "TAPI". From Outlook98 menu, action-new fax message, you will get a message composing window for FAX . Put the recipient FAX number such as fax@wXXXXXXX into the address blank. Duke |
