Lost document - can you recover after emptying recycle bin?

My daughter, in preparation for departing her college
semester, was cleaning her computer and emptied her
recycle bin. Now a professor claims he did not receive a
paper she physically placed on his desk.

Is there a way to recover this document? It was on her
comp Monday May 17 so we tried a system restore to that
date but to no avail.

Had you not done the system restore you may have been able to recover the
deleted file. Now that is less certain. You need to investigate file
recovery software such as File Recovery - http://www.lc-tech.com/ or Easy
Recovery http://www.ontrack.com/
