Recovering newsgroup .dbx's
What about flagged messages?
Wayne R. "Ron Sommer" wrote in message ... OE does not save the newsgroup files. Subscribe to the newsgroup. Access the newsgroup. Follow the directions for Single Folder: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/backup/partial.htm -- Ron Sommer "Wayne Roop" wrote in message ... I am using W98SE. Something happened that prevented Outlook Express from opening. I had to reinstall it. IE was not affected. How do get the news groups back? I had several flagged messages I'd like to retrieve. I can't remember which newsgroups they were in though. Prior to reinstalling OE I copied all the DBX files from the Stores location. I also saved the 4 necessary registry keys: HK_CU\Identities, HK_CU\S..\M..\InternetAccountManager, HK_CU\S..\M..\OutlookExpress, and HK_CU\S..\M..\WAB\WAB4\WAB File Name. I have Googled and Googled (including this newsgroup), and read half-dozen (or more) Knowledge Base articles. I've tried numerous combinations of reinstalling OE, deleting and replacing the registry entries, deleting and replacing the DBX files, changing identities, and nothing works. All the items that would be included in Local Folders I can get. Is there REALLY a way to retrieve the newsgroups? I would really appreciate knowing if someone had a surefire to do it. Thanks in advance for any help. Regards, Wayne R. |

Recovering newsgroup .dbx's
I think flagged messages are stored inside the folders.dbx file.
That particular file holds alot of information about the folder layout and the high and low message numbers for each news- group .dbx. If the flagged messages are not stored in the folders.dbx, then I'm thinking that there is an attribute for each message in each newsgroup .dbx, so it would be the newsgroup .dbx in that case that holds the information. It makes a lot more sense to store the information in the newsgroup .dbx as a flag for each message. Try this: 1) Close Outlook Express. 2) Change the registry keys. 3) Make a backup of your current message store folder, if so desired. 4) Delete all the current message store files. 5) Copy all the old message store files to the current msg store folder. 6) Open Outlook Express. That should get you to where you want to be. Let me know how it works out. -- Jim Carlock http://www.microcosmotalk.com/ Post replies to the newsgroup. "Wayne Roop" wrote in message ...
