Printer drivers PCL vs PS
I have recently upgraded my pc to XP pro. I have been using Pub-2002 in win98 for a while without any problems. My printer problem is related to my clj8500.
I am running Jet Direct Print server 500x (this did not change from before). I created a coupon 2.6 x 6.1 to be printed 6 up on an 8-1/2 x 14 paper. My problem is post script is printing ok but when I go to print pcl for the back side, the layout is squished and acts like its on 8-1/2 x 11 paper...looks great........except it is squished. I have downloaded and installed all new drivers (there are none available for XP so I had to use win2000 drivers) for all my printers and print server. I use pcl over ps for some projects as pcl file size is smaller than ps. As I sit here and write this post, I am still waiting for the file to print. I have, during this time read all the posts in regards to print problems. The file size (it is only one graphic on this page) is 183 mb. The file spooled to 181 mb and is holding steady while the printer is busy processing. It will print......eventually. This is the same file I was using under win98, same printer with divers for 98, and had no problems. I am very confused and would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Printer drivers PCL vs PS
This printer has separate drivers for both PCL and PS. I can pick which to print with from any application. Certain documents will print differantly depending upon which driver is selected. I use PS when text is required to be more crisp than the graphic. If the document is combination text and graphic and is mor intense I may use PCL as the file size is much smaller and will print quicker. When I am ready to run a job I will do a test print from both drivers to determine which looks better, prints quicker.

Yes, I went from 64mb to 192mb some time ago thinking this would speed things up but in reality, it really made no discernable differance. Properties are all set to reflect this as well. I have current server drivers. When I installed the new system I went out for each hardware and software updates after initial installation to make sure I was current. I am running a p4-2.8g-1g ddr so I feel that I am not lacking in system performance. It seems I used to print better under 98.

Have you tried a Windows 2000 driver?

Yes, I had no options as there are no drivers for XP Pro and was directed to use 2000 drivers by HP directly. I do not get the same results as I did under 98. I have also noticed that my options for Color management are not there in 2000 and they were in 98, as well as my color tab does not have ICM/CMS to select.

Yes, I realize this. However, I did this as was suggested earlier in the post.
