HELP NEEDED!!

I get "
Task 'mail.comcast.net - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your
e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in
your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server
responded: -ERR user password must be specified'" when I attempt to login to
Comcast's mail server. If I login via the test button, the login is
successful. If I login to my email account via the Comcast webpage, I can
gain access with no problem. I have deleted my profile several times. I
have deleted the "PSSP" entry in the registry several times. What gives? I
keep getting prompted to add password to email login. with the above
mentioned error as the result. Has anybody experienced this issue before?
If so, please share your resolution with me. Any/All suggestions are
welcomed. I don't think the issue is with OL 2K3, but, with WinXP's
registry. I just resolved the issue of the "send/receive" button not
working. Again, if I use the test option in email acct. setup, the test
passes.

Blair,
I have exacty the same problem and have been unable to resolve it so far.
I did try the fix under note 290684 but this seems to be more a case of the
password being asked for each time rather than failing to connect.
I saw that someone else has discovered theat a blank password was being sent
in their case and this would fit what I see happening and the error given.
The stupid thing is that when I test the account settings the settings work
fine.

Note that I am actually able to recieve my mails via Outlook Express and to
send mail via outlook.
I can't send mail via OE, but that is down to a bad install I believe.

Let me know if you find a fix.

Phil

Absolutely nothing !

It sounds like there are just a few of us with the same problem, but no one
has offered any solutions yet.

I think I have tried all the fixes that other people use to solve "similar"
problems, but none of them is exactly the same and none have worked.

Phil,

I still haven't found a solution. I don think the issue is what Outlook. I
think a registry setting is corrupted. Problem is, I don't know where or
what that setting is.

I am not sure if this is much of an answer , As I tried everything mentioned
above.
I believe I was having this issue because I loaded 2 administrative accounts
during a fresh install. Then I made one of these accounts a Limited User.It is
on this account that I could not retain passwords to logon to my ISP.
I simply deleted the first account that I had changed and created another
Limited User account with the same name.It worked.
I hope this helps someone until the real registry answer is found.

Come on guys....one of you Microsoft or Outlook gurus must have an idea how
to solve this problem or at least what it is.

This is driving me nuts. Please have a think again about what the solution
could be.

Cheers

Phil

It seems like a fairly clear error message to me, but try enabling
diagnostic logging and examining the log for more information.

Brian,

The error maybe clear to you. It is kicking my ass trying to resolve this
issue based on this "fairly clear error message". If you can help with this
issue please do. I have included the log file from Outlook 2K3. Again, if
I test my username/password, I can successfully connect to my pop3/SMTP
servers.
