"DGuess" wrote in message ... No wonder things aren't going right. I think you may well want to start it on a fresh setup. Is there any hardware that didn't pass the XP Compability test? BIOS update, etc? Hardware was fine....downloaded XP drivers before the upgrade for a couple of things. I had no idea that I had to update the BIOS.....found that out by reading some articles later. Upgrade Advisor didn't mention that. Also have an antivirus in the BIOS that I didn't know I should have disabled either.....a lot of things I was not aware of, to be honest. I either deleted things.....or downloaded XP drivers......for all that the Upgrade Advisor said. Thought I would have no problems. Yet I had a *hinky feeling* that something was going to go wrong. And it sure did. Fun......eh? Oh well, I will get that second hard drive and put it on that. Only THIS time.....the tech will do it. I don't need the aggro, as the Aussies say, grin. Cheers....Heather I just upgraded a computer for a lady that M goes to church with from WinMe to XP and had no problems. Well, there were some but I updated things in WinMe first and also removed all the spyware, etc. After that, the upgrade to XP Home went fine. Never had a problem installing XP on anything so far and I've done quite a few upgrades. Any hardware that was suspect, I pulled first then did the install. Have to use Drivers.com a lot at times. Now I know why I never cared for WinMe. |

There is a woman having all sorts of font problems on our WinME General
ng......and she happened to mention that she downloaded the same darn program I did just before her computer went haywire......so I have provided them with the link. It was called Photo Impressions by HP and she referred to *Image Zone Express* which is part of it. I still have the folder for that update to the original photo-editing program on my C:\WINDOWS\Application Data.....that is the one I pulled out of APPLOG. We are now wondering if it isn't that one that is causing mega problems. Something totally wiped out my OE and Firefox......not to mention I no longer have Quick Launch and some of my icons are just plain jane MS ones....Roxio, MS Word, etc. http://makeashorterlink.com/?E21D150DA - this is the page I found in HP that has 109 documents with regard to problems with this Image Zone Express..... Are we perhaps on to something here? Seems a bit coincidental that we both have major problems......she is getting Greek symbols and words in AdAware and other programs. This appears to be the only thing in common. Just a thought...... Cheers....Heather "DGuess" wrote in message ... "Heather" wrote in message ... See inline..... "DGuess" wrote in message ... The one thing I'm curious about is this. Why the dragging and dropping of folders? Well, I didn't think it belonged in Applog.....and it was a *hidden folder*.....and OE had absolutely nothing in it but the usual default folders (Inbox, Sent, etc). I had done a search for *.dbx files and they were showing up as C:\WINDOWS\APPLOG\Application Data......so that was the reason for my trying to move it out and over to the Folder named Application Data.......am I confusing you? (g) Do this, create a new user account in XP. Switch to it. All programs will be there but you will have to set up OE and import the mail and address book. Did that last night with the contents of the above dragged folder. Had a problem importing the *.wab file......but finally found an old one in your program and used that. It just plain would NOT import from the usual Internet Explorer spot. Besides, it was only 173 kb......so no names in it. Yep, that one was empty. I will print off your instructions and muse on it. I would just like to sort out what belongs where under Application Data, so figured I would wait a day or two and watch the date changes (or lack thereof). Here's a thought. Go into Tools | Options | Maintenace tab | Store Folders button. What location dos it show for there? On XP, one of the first things I do for my own messages is to move it to a folder such as C:\Msgs or C:\Mail and use it. Sure makes life a lot easier. I don't have duplicates of everything......but I also have the added confusion of a lot of XP folders on this HD which I am not entirely sure I can remove. I know.....a reformat is in order, but you know how Martha would feel at the word *reformat*.....grin. Well, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Say, I have an idea. Move on down here to the Bluegrass and I'll come and pick it up and fix it G |

So you move all your email messages to your C Drive?? Out of OE?? Might just do that. Hoping that we can find something with this HP program coz it is the only thing I downloaded before all h*ll broke loose. Grasping at straws really, but am going to get that 2nd HD and put XP on (or the tech will do both for me)....then maybe concentrate on sorting out ME once I get all the data from it. G It could have messed with the email settings, especially if it's one of those "email friends and family" type programs. I generally advise against installing those unless they have no other alternatives. Dell has/had one that was a demo and when it expired, it expired......left a ton of junk and file associations to rebuild. I think they sorted that one out though. |

I move it out to the root drive (Tools | Options | Maintenance tab | Store Folders button | Change button) but you have to create the folder first as there isn't a way to create a folder from within the Change dialog. It's hard to get me into town when I have to go and that's only 16 miles. G Never tried chitlin's and probably never will. I've cut up a few hogs here and there, cows or two, a few deer or so. I'm just a meat and taters kind of guy. A friend of ours, now passed away, owned a BBQ shop. Good stuff, not that soupy stuff they have in Owensboro at Moonlight and such. Never saw why people thought so much of that place. Anywho, he's have a varmit feast once a year. Did it up right too. G |
