just as an indication, it IS possible in Thunderbird using their
webmail extension. you can pop the hotmail (haven't been able to do it wi/ the msn.com address tho), and yahoo on both sides (send and receive)..... i was wondering if this wd be possible w/ other email clients as well, etc.... -- N. Miller wrote: On Wed, 15 Nov 2006 18:58:18 -0800, stef wrote: follow-up to: microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress No. MSN does not operate a POP3 server for users in the msn.com, or hotmail.com domains; with the rare exception of grandfathered users of the MSN service from way back when they did offer POP3/SMTP access. You would know it if the exception covered your service. is it possible AT ALL to pop3 my hotmail account (free account, not premium, etc.) No. as an alternative, i hear pop peeper does that job. any comments? It is a mail proxy, with all that entails when using MS Outlook Express. It probably will work, but it might hose your .dbx files if it doesn't. |

Hotmail doesn't provide POP3 access.
There are several programs that simulate POP3 access. If he program uses the HTTP access that OE does, then it would require a paid account. If the program simulates web access, then it would work with a free account, but the program would require updates whenever Hotmail changes their web interface. You'd have to check with individual products to find out if they will work with a free account. No directly from hotmail. It only supports http if you have a paid account
or are a legacy user. However 'web scrapers' like the one you mentioned can simulate a pop server on your email client; but they need some setup (with the mail server being localhost) etc "stef" wrote in message ... follow-up to: microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress is it possible AT ALL to pop3 my hotmail account (free account, not premium, etc.) as an alternative, i hear pop peeper does that job. any comments? tx -- |
