Transparent tiff files in Publisher 2003
Hi I have Pub 2003, using tiff files created in Photoshop 6.01. When I save trasparencies, the image shows up as solid black. I tries using ctrl+t, no soap. I also tried using the Transparency Wand, but it turns the whole box white. I have also tried saving the tiff without transparency and then using the Wand, which works, except the wand does not get all the white, it leaves little groups of pixels too small to go through and eliminate one by one. I don't know why it would leave stuff, as it is a black on white text tiff. Any ideas? (Oh yeah, I seem to recall this wasn't an issue when I was using the beta)
Thanks! |

This doesn't exactly describe your problem, but might give you insight

There is no support in Publisher for TIF files with transparency or any
other features of Photoshop. |

Transparent tiff files in Publisher 2003
A small child turns to Ed, and exclaims: "Look! Look! A post from
Josiah Rocke !"... Hi I have Pub 2003, using tiff files created in Photoshop 6.01. When I save trasparencies, the image shows up as solid black. I tries using ctrl+t, no soap. Try using a transparent PNG instead. Publisher supports PNG transparency (but does not always support it in printing - it's luck of the drivers) -- Ed Bennett - MVP Microsoft Publisher http://www.mvps.org/the_nerd/ Before reading this message, view the disclaimer: http://mvps.org/the_nerd/disclaim.htm |

I know a DTP program that does. :-) Hemera Photo Objects is a fantastic
clipart collection but most of the images are 32-bit tif files with transparency. I've used hamburgers that are almost enough life-like that people want to eat the newspaper! Not to dispute David for the intention of being difficult, but Publisher
does indeed support Transparent Tiffs. See attached. -- Brian Kvalheim Microsoft Publisher MVP http://www.publishermvps.com ~pay it forward~ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. "Mike Koewler" wrote in message ... I know a DTP program that does. :-) |

I can confirm your experience, Brian. I've also inserted links to TIFF files
that contain layers. But it *will* "gag" on a file that contains a mask channel and or a saved selection (I use PhotoShop for photo editing.) Brian, not true - again. Publisher DOES NOT support transparent TIF files
when imported with transparency from Photoshop. You can make a TIF file within Publisher transparent. So Brian K, what you are claiming is UN-true. |

I will have to try a TIFF with masked channel/saved selection and see what
happens on my end. I have PhotoShop 7.0. But I still use PhotoDraw 2000 v2 more :-) Two different beasts though. Pixel vs. Vector. Not to mention the SUPER impressive Microsoft Expression 3.3, THAT drawing program is turning heads. -- Brian Kvalheim Microsoft Publisher MVP http://www.publishermvps.com ~pay it forward~ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. NOT True. I imported a transparent TIFF from PhotoShop 7.0 as well as from
PhotoDraw 2000 v2. I didn't apply ANY transparent settings in Publisher. -- Brian Kvalheim Microsoft Publisher MVP http://www.publishermvps.com ~pay it forward~ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
