I have exported my Outlook Express Address Book to a CD. I had to reformat my
hard drive the other day and reload Windows and all the other programs as
well. When I try to Import the Address Book into Outlook Express, it does not
recognize the file and transfer the information. Any hints on how to
accomplish an Import?

Are you trying to import from the CD? That won't work. Copy the CD to your
HDD. Open the Address Book and File | Import | Address Book (wab) and point
to where you saved it.

Bruce:
I did as you suggested. Opened the Address Book, clicked on File/Import,
located the address book file on the cd and then received the following
message:
Address Book - Main Identity An error occurred during the import. The
import process could not be completed.

Right click on the Address Book that you copied to the HDD | Properties and
uncheck the Read Only attribute. Try the import now.

Sorry in taking so long to get back to you; have had company for two days.
Just did as you suggested and IT WORKED. Thank you so much.

Now, I'd like to ask for your help again. Friday, I had to reload windows on
my desktop. So, I am running XP Home with SP1. When I made this posting, I
checked the box to receive an email when there had been a response. On my
desktop, when I go into Outlook Express and open the email response, I find
the link Raed the Response. This link gets me to the Newsgroup, allows me to
find my posting, and clicking on the + displays the responses. However, when
I click on a response, it doesn't open; instead, I get a blank window to the
right of the listings with a question, "Did this post answer the question?" I
can't open the responses, can't create a new posting, can't reply, etc. I
suspect a setting somewhere in Internet Explorer needs to be changed.
Incidentally, I can get to the postings and open them with my laptop running
on the WiFi network. Can you help?

Glad you got the AB imported. I should have mentioned unchecking that in my
first reply, but forgot.

As far as your new problem, updating to SP2 and all the critical patches
since may fix the problem. I would try that first.

AFAIC, the Web Interface is a lousy way of posting to newsgroups. You would
do much better by setting up OE as your newsreader.

Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader for MSNews:

The web interface has had some problems recently. A number of people
have reported the problem of blank windows. Hopefully, that will be
fixed soon.

Mike:
I don't think I can blame this on the website. In addition to the desktop on
which I just reloaded Windows, and where I suspect I need to change a
setting, I have a networked laptop. I get my emails on both computers and the
messages which give me a blank answer pane on my desktop can be read normally
on my laptop. Can only conclude the problem lies within the desktop settings.
Any clues where to look?

All I can say is that a lot of people had the same problem the other
day. Reports are that the problem has now been corrected.

If you are still having problems on that one PC, then you may want to
post this issue in the IE newsgroup and see if there are some settings
in IE that could cause the problem.

Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with IE6
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...er.ie6.browser

Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with IE6/7

You can also get to the Internet Explorer newsgroups via this web site:

There select Internet Explorer
