Textbox with scroll bars
I was successful in creating a text box with scroll bars. I am using Word 2003. If you are not, then the steps may be different. I do not have access to previous versions at this time.
In Word 2003, you need to display the Control Toolbox (right-click any toolbar and select Control Toolbox). In the Control Toolbox, you will find a tool called "Text Box" that has an "ab" in a sunken square. Click this tool and a default text box appears in your document. You will need to modify this box. First, use the corner handles to give it the size and proportion you want. Second, right click inside the box and select Properties. A long list of options appears. To accomplish adding scroll bars inside the text box, you will need to make two selections: MultiLine and ScrollBars. The MultiLine property tells the box how you want text to fit in the box horizontally. If MultiLine is set to False, the text will appear in one line regardless as to other settings. If MultiLine is set to True, the text will fit itself horizontally across the box - which is probably what you want. The ScrollBars property tells the box how to use scroll bars. You can set scroll bars to none, horizontal, vertical or both. AND, scroll bars act just as you might expect. They only appear when they are needed so don't be concerned if you don't see them right away. Type enough text inside the box to make one appear and you will see it when it is needed. One other thing. When you need to make changes to the properties of the box, you need to click anywhere in your document outside of the text box and get into Design Mode. Do that by displaying the Control Toolbox and clicking the Design Mode Tool (it has a triangle, ruler and a pencil on it). Couple of things about this tool, it needs to be on for you to make changes to the box. It needs to be off to type text in the box. I hope this helps. -- Debbie Lemon, MCDST Microsoft Office Master Instructor Productivity Advisor "Amorfosis" wrote: is there anyway to set up a textbox that has scrollbars ? Textbox with scroll bars
That is an ActiveX text box--not quite the same thing as a "text box," i.e.,
drawing object. Inserting ActiveX controls in a document will cause them to trigger a macro warning (at best) on most systems. -- Suzanne S.
